Ballistic Restraint and Diaper Ruling

March 25, 2008

There has been considerable conversation lately on the topic of ballistic restraints and engine diapers among the NHRA racers. For the purpose of clarification, we would like to bring you the reality of enforcement of the rulings. Early in the year, the NHRA made a ruling that all cars running 9.99 seconds and quicker were going to be required to have diapers and restraints installed. Summit Motorsports Park, in an effort to comply with the NHRA ruling, followed suit. Since that initial ruling, a supply and demand issue has arisen. Simply put, there are more 9.99 and quicker racers than there are diapers available to supply them. NHRA has rescinded the “mandate” in place of a suggestion, and of course, we followed suit. Therefore; we highly encourage all racers running 9.99 seconds and quicker to have ballistic restraints and engine diapers, but we will NOT stop any racer from competing if they do not have one.
