Delay Box Decision for Wiseco/Cycle Tech Super Bike
Feb 27, 2007
As you all know, Summit Motorsports Park is now an NHRA member track. According to the NHRA rulebook, delay boxes are permitted in Super Bike. This is not a mandated rule by the NHRA, but merely the allowance of delay boxes in that class. In previous years, Summit Motorsports Park has not permitted the use of delay boxes in Super Bike.
Several racers came to Bill Jr. at the end of the 2006 season and again at the awards banquet in January and asked him to reconsider the "no box" rule. In response, he polled the 2006 Finish Line Club members in Super Bike. One of the questions asked was whether or not you, the class rider, wanted delay boxes used in the 2007 season. All the comments were read and the votes were tallied. The majority of the responses from the riders said "no", they did not want the boxes used. As a final decision, in keeping with the majority, delay boxes will not be permitted in the 2007 season.
The sole exception to the rule will be at the Summit Team Bracket Finals in Indianapolis in September. Since the NHRA allows the use of delay boxes, our team riders will be permitted to use them at that event along with riders from other tracks. This will level the playing field for those that feel the boxes give them an advantage.
Bill also commented that if it became necessary, he would survey the Finish Line Club members of the class concerning the use of delay boxes again at the end of the 2007 season.
