Local racers at the Nationals
July 3, 2009
We were well represented at last weeks Summit racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, and we’re extremely pleased with that. We found one of our regular racers in almost every one of the sportsman classes, and several of you Summit Motorsports Park regular points racers went deep into eliminations before ending your day. We couldn’t be prouder to have the intrepid group of racers that we have, and we thank you for holding up the hometown end!
There were too many of our regulars running to list them, and we’d undoubtedly miss somebody if we tried. There were a few exceptions that deserve to be noted, not necessarily for their performance as much as for something unique. In that arena, seeing Barney Barnhart’s double all weekend definitely deserves mention. The pair had identical cars, identical trailers, and side-by-side parking spots. It kind of made you want to check to make sure it was a soda can you were holding! (continued)
Fords at the Summit and the Ring of Fire
July 2, 2009
The Inaugural Fords at the Summit presented by UPR and Custom Wire Sets is only a few weeks away, July 24-26, and the lineup of exciting features is unparalleled. One of the most outstanding features is the surprising cost of this packed event. Where else in the country can you go to see drag racing, show cars and trucks, a swap meet, and manufacturers midway for only $8.00 per day? In addition, kids 12 years and under are free, and there is free spectator parking as well. It’s exactly the kind of event that should make you want to come out and enjoy even if you’re not a Blue Oval fan! (continued)

We will be back to work next Monday, and the racing schedule resumes on Wednesday with Hot Norwalk Nights, and next Friday with Test N’ Tune in preparation for Saturday’s points meet. See you next week. Have a great holiday weekend!
Local Racer Goes To The National Winner's Circle
July 1, 2009
We’ve lost a regular racer, and we couldn’t be happier about it! Rick Baehr has been racing at Summit Motorsports Park for about 13 years, and calls this track home. Last weekend, Rick did something remarkable. He entered his Mustang in Stock class at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, drove the white steed through six grueling rounds of competition, and at the end of the day, went home with the Wally! That’s the first NHRA national event win that Rick has achieved, and it lit a fire! (continued)
Juniors Headed For Bristol
June 30, 2009
The NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League 2009 Eastern Conference Finals are coming up on July 9-11 in Bristol, Tennessee, and we have another strong team to represent Summit Motorsports Park in that event. In the past two years, one of our teams has placed in the top five by the time the event was concluded. Could this be the year we take top honors? It certainly possible with the caliber of racers that we’re sending south! We want to make sure that all of our racers have what they need to compete. (continued)
Cart Tricks from Flaming River
June 30, 2009
One thing that never ceases to surprise us is the degree to which racers will go to customize everything, and that includes their pit carts. You know what we mean. Those things that used to be called golf carts before a hot rodder got hold of it! Flaming River Industries wants you to know that they’re aware that hot rodding has no limits, and they have some new products to help you with the project. (continued)
Great Race!
June 29, 2009
The 3rd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals was a great race! The on-track action that we witnessed was intense and non-stop for four solid days with only a couple mishaps. There were only a couple drivers that got an unexpected tour of the airport, and nobody suffered anything more than the indignity of mechanical failure. We saw records set! Not all of the data has as yet been compiled, but we can say without reservation, that Andrew Hines reset the track E.T. record for Pro Stock bike at 6.944 seconds, and Hector Arana reset the track speed record in the same class with a 192.63 mph pass. Even the weather cooperated, for the most part.
The one brief shower on Sunday morning sent fans scrambling for cover. But, the fans are what truly made this race great. The fact that this part of the country has been hurt by this economy more than most is not lost on us. The fact that the stands were full on Friday, then on Saturday, and once again on Sunday is a statement. The weekend was made complete by seeing so many of you come out to celebrate this event with us, and for that we thank you. The old saying; “we couldn’t have done it without you” has never held truer! In the face of some of the hardest times most of us have known, racing fans came out and spent precious time and hard earned money to watch this race. From the staff of Summit Motorsports Park, we thank every one of you!
True Racing Fans!
June 28, 2009
In the mass that descended on Summit Motorsports Park this weekend, we ran into a couple that is here for the first time this year, and despite the fact that this event is only three years old, that seems to be the exception. Ron and Jackie Woolworth have attended their fair share of racing events, just never here. Their first impression? “It’s an awesome facility. We really didn’t expect it to be this big, or this clean! And, we had no idea that they had so many big events.” Ron said. (continued)

UPDATE - We experienced a shower just before the opening round of eliminations, but the sun is out, the track is drying, and we will be racing in just about an hour, at 12:30!
